South Australian Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Network Conference 2019
Jerome and Amanda braved the very frosty morning on Sunday 23rd June (-2 degrees in the Barossa) to travel to Adelaide for the 2019 South Australian Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Network (SAOPN) Conference. One of the highlights of the day was the amazing catering from The Caterers with a gourmet lunch to rival the quality of food we enjoy here in the Barossa.
The day started with Neurosurgeon Dr Simon Sandler discussing spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain relief. This was followed by Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Mark Inglis explaining Robotic Knee Arthroplasty surgery (knee replacement) and it's benefits with some of the attendees getting to have a feel of the MAKO robot (pictured above).
Key features and advantages of Robotic Knee Arthroplasty are:
improved accuracy in cuts and balancing/alignment of knee
hence improve (reduced) revision rate

Keynote speaker Physiotherapist Rebecca Ferrier addressed the current management of people following a hip fracture and what the expected outcomes are and what they could be.
Throughout the day we also heard from Clinical Psychologist Dr Lydia Kovacev, Geriatrician Dr Sally Johns, Dietician Margriet Bikkel, Physiotherapists Sebastian Prince, Dr Lucy Lewis, Jordan Tumes, Keren Faulkner, Lauren Sebastiani, Podiatrist Ereena Torpey, Rehabilitation Triage nurse Siobhan Jackson and Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Luke Mooney.
Overall it was another very informative SAOPN conference.
